Hopeless Romantic is a three-piece post-emo band rocking out of Long Island, New York. The band is composed of brothers Ryan Daniels and Shane Hahnel on Lead Vocals/Guitar and Drums respectively, and Jared Grossman rounds out the band on bass guitar. Their most recent release is the single Sunken Eyes and Big Plans (Over It) off their new EP Constance out March 3rd on digital and cassette.
Hopeless Romantic’s sound is bred through classic emo chords mixed with driving beats. Their musical theatre influence comes through in their lilting harmonies. The EP joins bright guitar with melancholy lyrics such as, “bury me in your favorite sundress” and “took a look outside/you were sunbathing on the ice”. Influences from The Front Bottoms and Fall Out Boy shine through, but Hopeless Romantic is still solidly their own band.
My personal favorite on the new EP is Left to Dry ,where the band strips back to vocals and keys. It’s a perfect interlude before the rollicking Sunken Eyes and Big Plans (Over It). The layered vocals, echoes, and that beat is a defiant end to a solid EP. Constance is the perfect pick me up for the end-of-winter darkness.
